St. Sameba (Trinity) Church (Old Sameba)

St. Sameba (Trinity) church is located behind the National museum on G. Abashidze street. The first church here was built by Petre Aghniashvili, by nick name the watch, in 1790. (he was appointed as a Ghartiskari watch by the king Erekle the II and he was defeating Tbilisi from Dagestanian attack ). Later in 1832 his grand child the priest Svimon (Shio) Aghniashvili built the western gate to the construction and in 1850 with his own will a church tower was placed on it. After a little while the church was totally renovated. In 1990 a low extension was constructed in the  north and south,  near  the western portico. In interior there are paintings of 1890 years made by Ludwig Longos. Proportional, high forms, symmetry, moderate decorations, a kind of  eclecticism  are the main characteristics of the church.

By the support of the Cahrity Fund „Ertguleba” reconstruction works were held in St. Sameba (Trinity) Church. In the framework of the project also refectory and resting room for ecclesiastics were reconstructed.
